Antarctic meteorites

Newly classified meteorites

Every year the US Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) team collects hundreds of stones from the ice. Each one is classified and announced in batches, and each is new to science.

Fireballs

Recent fireballs

Very bright fireballs (bolides) detected by US government sensors. Most burn up completely, but the biggest can drop meteorites. Energy is the estimated impact energy in kilotons of TNT.

Saw a fireball yourself? Report what you saw. Questions about it? Ask Howardites.
