Meteorite law in Libya
No meteorite rule we can confirm today. Libya's deserts produced the Dar al Gani finds; exporting natural heritage now needs official permission.
No specific law known
In the 1990s the Dar al Gani plateau in Libya yielded many meteorites, including the Martian meteorite Dar al Gani 476. We cannot confirm a current Libyan law written for meteorites, but the export of heritage and natural objects needs official permission, and the country's security situation makes legal export difficult. Treat recently offered Libyan material with caution.
This is general information to help you ask the right questions, not legal advice. Laws change and their details matter, and this summary was last reviewed in 2026. Before you search, buy, sell or export a meteorite, check the current law with the authorities of the country concerned or a qualified lawyer. See meteorite law by country.
