The science centre in Culiacán, capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, displays the Bacubirito meteorite. This iron, of about 20 tonnes, was found in the hills of Sinaloa in the 19th century and is one of the largest meteorites known. It is long and narrow, more than 4 metres from end to end, which makes it one of the longest meteorites anywhere.
Bacubirito is an ungrouped iron: its chemistry does not match any of the established groups, so it probably comes from the core of an asteroid not otherwise represented in our collections.
