Meteorite dealer
A meteorite dealer buys and sells meteorites; good ones give clear names, classifications and provenance.
A meteorite dealer is someone who trades meteorites, selling specimens to collectors, museums and researchers. Many dealers are knowledgeable enthusiasts who have contributed greatly to science by recovering, preparing and supplying meteorites that would otherwise be lost.
When buying, look for dealers who give the official name of each meteorite as listed by the Meteoritical Society, its classification, mass, and clear details of where and when it was found. They should be able to explain how it was exported legally. Reputable dealers often belong to professional associations that set codes of conduct and offer a guarantee of authenticity.
Be cautious with sellers who offer unnamed 'meteorites', make vague claims, refuse to answer questions or sell at prices that seem too good to be true. Meteorwrongs, such as slag or iron ore, are often sold online as meteorites. Ask questions, compare information and, if in doubt, seek advice from a museum.
