Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, north of Atlanta, has galleries on minerals, fossils and space, including a meteorite collection displayed beside its mineral hall.
Two of its meteorites hit homes in Georgia. In 2009 a stone smashed through the roof of a house in Cartersville itself and was later acquired by the museum. In June 2025 a fireball was seen in daylight across the south-eastern United States, and a stone punched through the roof of a house in McDonough, south of Atlanta; the museum obtained and studied pieces of it within days.
Stories like these make an important point: meteorites land everywhere, and the ones that hit buildings are the ones most likely to be noticed.
