The University of California, Los Angeles has collected meteorites since the 1930s, and its collection of a few thousand specimens is the largest at any university in the western United States. It supports research by the university's planetary scientists, who have studied everything from the earliest solids of the Solar System to Martian meteorites.

The UCLA Meteorite Gallery, in the geology building on the campus, displays more than a hundred meteorites from all the main groups and explains how they are studied. It is free to visit and is often used by school groups.
